Pork belly taco. Nice slab of juicy pork belly and was mmy husband and I'm favorite. For the salsa, when they say it's hot, it does get hot. It's the type of spicy doesn't hit you right away but does linger a bit on your tongue.

My folks live in Roseville, so when I saw a local taqueria was getting press as one of the best new taco spots in America (thanks, Michelin guide!), we had to check it out. I ordered: Octopus taco - 4.5/5 - I love octopus so I was most excited to try this option. I was a little disappointed that the other toppings overwhelmed the flavor of grilled octopus, but the octopus texture was great and I still enjoyed the experience overall. Carne asada taco - 4/5 - flavor was good and meat portion was generous. The meat was drier and tougher than my favorite "fancy taco" spot (Cancún Sabor Mexicano in Berkeley), so this was not a standout item, but still tasty. Spicy shrimp taco - 5/5 - shrimp plump, juicy, and flavorful - perfectly executed, best item I tried here. Guacamole - 3.5/5 - nice presentation - avocado flavor a little thinner than I'm used to, might have had a subpar avo in the mix, and portion size small for ~$10. Pretty standard overall. Free chips and salsa - 4/5 - can't beat that price! They are generous with refills. Salsas pretty good, although not exceptional - again, my fave fancy taco spot in Berkeley (Cancún Sabor Mexicano) sets the standard for freshness, complex flavor, and variety for house made salsa and chips. My favorite at Nixtaco ended up being the peanut salsa, even though I wasn't sure if I would like it at first. My folks and husband were enthusiastic about their food - my husband particularly liked his octopus burrito. My 6 year old had trouble finding something she liked (she's picky about spice and cheese), but that's mostly on her. Nixtaco does offer a few suggested items specifically catered to a typical kid's palate. The ambiance makes this space feel like a trendy modern bar. There weren't any drinks besides cocktails and beer, which is a bit of a shortcoming - since we were out with kiddos for a weekday lunch, we would have loved, say, some house made agua fresca (like Cancún Sabor Mexicano offers). Our bill came a little shy of $100, which for 4 adults and 1 kid seems reasonable for a filling sit down meal in an affluent-ish California suburban area - Nixtaco is not a standard grab and go corner taqueria experience (which I also love and is cheaper, but not a fair point of comparison). Overall, Nixtaco makes flavorful, fresh tacos and burritos in a hip sit-down restaurant setting. They stand out for their wide range of filling options, which I look forward to returning to try more of. It's nice Nixtaco got a nod from the Michelin folks as a bib gourmand spot. The food at Nixtaco is tasty and the variety of options is notable, although I think there are other similar fancy taco spots that haven't gotten the media attention, and it's not clear to me that Nixtaco stands out in this genre (eg "best taco in America" is surely hyperbole). I wonder why similarly styled (in some respects slightly better) fancy farm to table taco places have not also garnered Michelin bib gourmand honor (seriously, if you like Nixtaco, I think you'd love the food at Cancún Sabor Mexicano). The experience didn't change my life, but it was pretty satisfying, and if you're in the Roseville/Sac area, I recommend a stop here.

Ambiance here is casual. I like the layout in the patio more than the inside. It was nice and cool on a hot evening. . Food . Fried chicken taco - great chunks of fried chicken. The flavor was good. . Asada beef taco - great quality steak pieces. It was one of the top choices for next time. . Porky Shrimp taco - generous 4 to 5 pieces of shrimp. With chicarones dust on top. The sauces on it was flavorful. . Cilantro lime fried avocado - thus was sooo good. I loved the creamy avocado and crispy fried. The flavor of the lime just made it a chef kiss. . Overall the chips and salsa wasn't a favorite. The chips were hard and kind of stale. The salsa was too exquisite and unique. The salsa is great for pairing with tacos but not as a chips and salsa dip. Hope this review helps and thanks for reading. Have a yelptastic day.

Love their house made tortillas and all their vegan tacos for a lighter dinner! Drinks are also great.

We came here on a Sunday to grab lunch and some drinks . I had been here a few years ago and I was impressed compared to last time I was here . The tacos looked bigger not blue corn and the Bar was fully loaded. We sat at the bar open seating we had great conversations and service from Rees and River super nice and attentive. Rees even made me a special drink with Gin it was delicious. The decor is cute and rustic they have a patio area and the inside with a lot of seating . They have a full bar with craft cocktails and beers they are also a distillery they make their own Gin and vodka . They bring you chips and a salsa flight to your table with 4 different salsas to try from wild to hot. They were all super good! For the tacos they make all their tortillas in house . When seating at the bar I was able to see them making the tortillas. You could definitely taste the difference. We got 5 tacos we wanted to try different ones so we got Al Pastor, Barbacoa, Mole, Rajas con Queso and Pork Belly . My Favorites were Rajas con Queso and Al Pastor . Overall we had a great time here . The ambiance and the people made our experience a good one . The drinks and food was great . It can be a little pricier then other places where u can get more for your money but overall we had a great time . They are a Michelin star restaurant. Definitely worth checking out ..

We came to Nixtaco with a friend after hearing so many great things about the food and service. We came by on a Friday night at 6:30pm and added our name to the list for a table of three. There was a short wait, but we went in expecting a longer one. The servers were very friendly and attentive and we started off with cocktails. We ordered the Pink Panther ($14) and the Cirby Martinez ($16). Both were delicious and they have house gin and vodka that they use in cocktails and they have bottles available for sale. They also gave us chips and four salsas to enjoy while we waited for food. Between the three of us we ordered a variety of tacos. I personally tried the Pollo en Mole ($5.50), and Pork Belly "Roadkill" ($6.50). I also tried a bite of my husband's Octopus taco ($8) and Pork al Pastor ($6.50). They're street taco sized but elevated with more gourmet ingredients and flavor combinations. We also had a half and half bowl of refried beans and red rice for the table which was a generous portion and very flavorful. Throughout the meal the servers made sure we had plenty of water and that our empty plates and cups were cleared right away. We also ended up having churros ($8) for dessert and they came out hot and crispy with a drizzle of sauce over the three churros. The restaurant is is very cute and there is plenty of parking, which makes it easy to stop by with friends or family. They have indoor and outdoor seating available and the atmosphere is upbeat and lively. It can get a bit noisy inside, but were were still able to hold a conversation easily.

Incredible street tacos. I am not vegan but I had to try the avocado explosion and elote tacos. The chipotle peanut sauce is divine and everything was delicious. I'm not local but I'd make a detour to come back and try more items.
